TRAILS AND WALKS IN NATURE

Thanks to Camping Aritzaleku’s enviably strategic location, you can also go on plenty of trips and do lots of things in the surrounding area to make your stay at the campsite even more pleasurable.

Some of our suggestions are:

Urbasa-Andía Natural Park: a mountain range 50 km from the campsite on the NA-120 road. These medium-sized mountains form a geographical barrier between two major bioclimatic zones: the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

You can go on lots of interesting trails in the park, like the mountaineers’ trail, the shepherds’ trail and the trail of the springs. There is also an interpretation area where you can find out all about the park.

The Sierra de Urbasa is home to the Source of the Urederra river, one of the most beautiful and most visited spots in Navarra; a place well worth seeing. To access and visit the source, you need to make a reservation at the following link  https://administracionelectronica.navarra.es

The campsite is also strategically located on the route of the Way of St James, on the stretch from Puente la Reina to Estella, so it is also a great idea to walk the 22 kilometres of this, the fifth stage of the French route of the ancient pilgrims’ road.

Another must-see if you are staying at the campsite is the Monastery of Irantzu, just a 25-minute drive away on the NA-7171 and NA-7320.

Hidden in the green valley of Yerri, in an isolated area surrounded by mountains sits this grandiose Cistercian abbey, built between the 12th and 14th centuries.  The elegant, austere Gothic cloister, one of the most beautiful features of the building, invites visitors to discover the rest of the monastery, which was renovated in 1942.

After visiting the monastery, you can enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings of this semi-wild valley, with its pools of crystalline water, and stroll along the path up the canyon formed by the Iranzu river at the foot of the Sierra de Andía.

Half an hour away from the campsite on the NA-7320 lies Estella, a monumental Romanesque city created thanks to the Way of St James where you mustn’t miss the chance to see the Church of San Pedro de la Rúa, the Church of El Santo Sepulcro, the Basilica of El Puy and the Palace of the Monarchs of Navarra.

CUISINE BASED ON LOCAL PRODUCTS AND WINES

And of course, in addition to being able to eat at the campsite restaurant, where we always have the best seasonal products, you can find a number of villages nearby with restaurants and shops where you can try or buy the famous piquillo peppers or the delicious asparagus of Navarra, both of which have their own Designation of Origin and are capable of delighting the most discerning palates.

And we cannot forget Navarra wines, cheeses with Designation of Origin or Navarra’s famous pochas beans, which are harvested and eaten in the summer months and can be purchased at local shops and markets.

The campsite is an associate of the Wine Route, rutadelvinodenavarra.com, on which you can find a selection of highly professional, quality wineries and tourist establishments which invite you to savour the pleasures of the good life and discover this land’s wine culture. Enter the website and discover the routes suggested according to the type of trip you want to do and the seasonal activities on offer, and let yourself be seduced by this unique way of transmitting all the essences and aromas, the history and living nature which inhabit all Navarra wines.

In addition to all the above, take a look at the website Tierras de Irantzu, where you will find other things to do in the area such as paragliding, mountain bike routes, trekking, gastronomic routes, although the highlight will always be the natural environment, including the Alloz reservoir, which you can enjoy first-hand at Camping Aritzaleku.
